The Deposit Return System (DRS) is a framework developed to enhance the recovery of packaged products and environmental sustainability, ensuring the monitoring of both products placed on the market and collected waste through the system. Within this scope, companies involved in recycling and collection activities are obliged to register the packaging they collect using unique, non-duplicable barcodes provided by the Ministry’s system (DBYS).
These barcodes are generally sent to companies from the Ministry’s system as PNG files within a ZIP archive. These unique barcode images are applied to the clips attached to the opening of waste collection bags used in the field, ensuring that each bag is uniquely tracked within the system.
This requirement creates a significant data management and operational workload, particularly for companies managing high-volume waste collection and sorting operations.
Our developed software solution completely automates the process by integrating these high-volume barcode data sets, received from the Ministry’s system, directly into the printing and labeling workflows. The system securely manages the barcode series retrieved from DBYS and ensures that printing operations are executed without errors.
The Deposit Return System (DRS) aims not only to track packaging but also to ensure that deposit fees are accurately refunded to consumers. The barcodes provided by the Ministry represent the digital identity of each collection bag or unit within the system, allowing them to be uniquely tracked via RVMs (Reverse Vending Machines) and the central system.
The process of retrieving barcodes in bulk, processing them in the correct sequence, and transferring them to high-resolution industrial printers requires technical expertise. A single incorrectly printed series can cause an entire batch of collection bags or packaging to be rejected by return machines, leading to disruptions in the corresponding deposit refunds.
Therefore, recycling companies require high precision and automation in barcode management to securely and accurately track which bags are collected, which items are returned, and to ensure that deposit fees are properly refunded without any errors.
